Pazuzu Attack

Description

Finch had seen a lot of ugly creatures in his life, a very high proportion for someone so young, but this monster was the worst thus far. It looked almost like an enormous lion, if that lion had been stuck in a blender. Its furless skin looked as if it were almost melting and just barely hanging off its bones. It had a long, spiked, dragon-like tail with a poisonous-looking barb on the end, huge horns, talon-like feet, tiny, gleaming eyes, and numerous sharp teeth. Its distorted, blurred features leered at Finch as it crouched down slowly, almost looking as though it was made of the mist itself.

Just a scene from my novel I felt like illustrating =P. It's one of my favorite scenes, in which Finch and co. (Snow, Zealix, and Jay) are wandering through a magical forest that has a lot of fog...and through a bunch of events, including a treacherous pixie, they come across the monster that's been terrorizing the pixies/forest for centuries: the Pazuzu.

Here the monster's using its abilities, which allow it to turn into fog and create winds/storms. I based my pazuzu loosely on the Pazuzu, a Sumerian wind demon that usually is depicted as part man, lion, scorpion, and eagle. I combined all of those things except for man, because it didn't really fit into my story XD.

Freehand india ink on 9"x12" really textured watercolor paper...this has so many problems with it compositionally and anatomically and contrastingly...but it was just for fun xD. It's annoying, though, that since it has so many tiny details (I even used a toothpick to add on some of the ink!), you can't really tell what's going on from a distance. Which is problematic. I need to think before inking....u_u;.

And the scanning sucks because my scanner-printer finally kicked the bucket a few days ago. I came into my room and the printer was smoking and it smelt like burnt machinery/ink |D;;;. OOPS. So, I had to use a friend's scanner for this, which didn't pick up most of the tones of the picture. Bummer :(. I'll have to get a new one someday soon...and then I'll rescan it.

Fantastic, reminds me of The Exorcist the Beginning , with the evil hyena/ demon concept!
