A Raven, a Rat, a Red-Backed Spider, and Poison Ivy surrounding a skull...
And quoth the Raven, "Nevermore?"

Here's my Halloween painting for 2005! It's not a normal halloween pic, as it doesn't include something cute, like a cat, with something orange, like a pumpkin. Yet, this is Halloween-themed :). This was really fun to paint because it's SO different from what I usually do. Very different, but very fun :3.

And that's a red-backed spider, not a black widow. You see, I remembered, right before painting it, that black widows have the red on their STOMACH. I almost died when I realized this, and francially searched for a relative. Luckily, there's such a thing as a red-backed, a close and just as deadly relative. *phew*

Poison ivy turns red in fall, in case you guys didn't know. I really am quite pleased with how the raven turned it. The feathers look just like I wanted them to :D. The skull's okay too. And I don't really like how the gray sky and some parts of the rat turned out....but ah well. It was my first time painting a rodent (wow, I really need to paint more...), so I'm proud enough :). Plus, he looks scary! (My mom looked at my sketch for this, and she's like, "ummm....that rat is really....cute Oo;;" And I was all like, "whoops, *redraw*" XD I always make my animals too cute...).

Now I'll shut up with these last words: look for the extra blood in the painting >:3.
What symbolism I have created...! XD; Or maybe it's all too obvious or lost in the scan........
Time spent: hours...maybe 7? 8? 6?
Tools used: Microns for outlines, watercolors, masking fluid, and then white acrylic touchups :D
Picture is © to me. No using without my permission!

And....comments are appreciated :D. I really love hearing feedback....so....please do n.n;

My first thought when I saw this is what a great Halloween painting it would be. THEN I read your comments. So your idea was certainly right on the money as far as I'm concerned.
